public understanind of science

We talk about it!

Public understanding of science is critical to promote scientific discoveries. At Imperial, we strive to promote openness about how and why we use animal models for research and what we do to improve the 3Rs. This is why we talk about it widely and loudly. Here is a selection of recent and upcoming initiatives that highlights our efforts in promoting openness around animal research and 3Rs implementations.

Our 3Rs Engagement Events

3RsHub at the Great Exhibition Road Festival

In June, the 3RsHub joined the Great Exhibition Road Festival to engage the public with Imperial animal research and 3Rs alternatives. The weekend was a great success and a chance to launch our Animal Facility Virtual Tour.

Our 3Rs Network

Animal research and new approach methodologies (NAMs) are complementary, not competing. Therefore, 3RsHub closely collaborates with the Imperial Organoids Facility to advance scientific progress and support public understanding of 3Rs advances and limits. In this video, the BBC visits the new Centre for Intestinal Systems to explain how Imperial is driving the research toward replacement of animal models for studying metabolic diseases.

Our 3Rs Educational Material

Understanding your skills and how to market them – Part 2

Animal care staff and in vivo technicians are highly skilled members of research staff. Their expertise is invaluable in promoting the 3Rs and communicate with the public about animal welfare. This is the second part of a video tutorial aimed at sparking the conversation about career progression for animal support staff.
